Healthcare Reform; Obama Lied…America Died

What makes it difficult to move the healthcare dialogue in any direction is the intense emotional attachment most attention paying Americans hold. And…”as usual in heated debates” the first casualty is the facts. Then again; democrats never let the facts get in the way of a well timed crisis. A crisis by the way, that…as usual, democrats created and then act as innocent bystanding gawkers to the wreck they were in charge of. If you think about it you might see an analogy with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
President Bamster has often argued that health insurance companies need more competition, and he's proposed a public option for health insurance to provide it.
"There have been reports just over the last couple of days of insurance companies making record profits, right now," Obama said during a prime-time news conference. "At a time when everybody's getting hammered, they're making record profits, and premiums are going up. What's the constraint on that? ... Well, part of the way is to make sure that there's some competition out there."
Usually, I take for granted that when the liar in chief is moving his lips, America is getting a dump truck full of bovine excrement but; lending to the import of this legislation on the future of our country I took the time for due diligence and gum-shoed the hell out of this subject. Here are the facts.

1.Insurance company profits. "For every premium dollar that they take in, about 83 cents goes out in medical costs -- doctors, hospitals, and drugs," says Carl McDonald, health insurance analyst at Oppenheimer & Co. The rest is spent on overhead. Net income comes to just a few cents per dollar of premiums. Consider WellPoint, the biggest private health insurer on Wall Street, which has about 35 million customers nationwide. Last year, it paid out 83.6% of revenues in expenses. Net, after-tax income as a percentage of total revenue came to a princely 4.1%. Returns on assets, a key measure of profitability, are typically pretty modest too. According to analysis by Fact Set, WellPoint's ROA has averaged 5.8% over the past five years, Aetna's, 4.2%. Those were, remember, supposedly boom years. UnitedHealth was higher, at 9.6%, but fell to 6.4% in 2008. These are reasonable, but hardly spectacular, results. By comparison, Wal-Mart averaged a 9.2% return on its assets and Dell, Inc. 12.4%.

2.Obama claims that a government-run, “public option” would increase competition and lower insurance premiums. In baseball parlance this is a lobbed pitch, right over the plate and I’ve got a bat the size of a giant redwood. Contrary to public perception there are not a handful of evil, monolithic insurance providers gleefully denying coverage to all but Olympic sprinters and millionaires. At last count there were over 1300 health insurance providers. The fly in the ointment, the monkey in the wrench is that the states allow very little competition.
3.Healthcare is a right. Oh really…? The best of my recollection as to the bill of rights excludes any mention of healthcare. If we were to include healthcare as a right where then do we draw the line? Food, shelter, transportation? We are endowed by our creator with rights. Yet, rights exist not in a vacuum. My right to speak doesn’t require you to listen. My right to keep arms doesn’t require you to subsidize that right by purchasing a firearm for me. Our freedom of the press doesn’t allow for taxpayers to finance the fourth article of government. My point is this, rights are not reciprocal. Your rights end when they burden me. Extrapolated; government healthcare cannot be a right as it won’t exist without impinging on my rights via a subsidizing taxation to bestow upon you a right that is not one.

4.The real costs of healthcare are insurance. No so Skippy. Consider this scenario. I own a construction company with one hundred big, burley, belching, and ass scratching men. And…because deep down I am a benevolent employer, all around good guy and soft hearted. So…I offer to my men comprehensive health insurance. Enter the state. I cannot buy a group policy for my burley worker that does not include free, annual breast exams, screening for breast cancer. It’s the law and more often than not referred to as a mandate. States often require insurers to insure there workers for smoking cessation programs, mental health, drug and alcohol rehab, sexual orientation counseling, In-Vitro Fertilization, Morbid Obesity Treatment, Hair Prosthesis, Viagra, Penis pumps, Athletic trainer, Circumcision, Hair prosthesis, Midwife, Naturopath, Oriental medicine, Pastoral counseling,
Port wine stain elimination (birthmark removal)
Residential crisis service
Source: Council for Affordable Health Insurance etc., etc. I also learned that there are nearly 2,133 mandates like these, “spread throughout the states” which are responsible for group health insurance premium increases of 20 to 50 percent.
5. Insurance companies routinely refuse per-existing conditions leaving the most infirm SOL. This postulation ignores Congressman John Shadeggs state High Risk Pool Finding Extension Act of 2006. President Bush signed into law the State High Risk Pool Finding Extension Act of 2006. This bill authorized grant funding for the establishment and operation of state high-risk insurance pools. Now, 35 states offer such pools that already insure more than 200,000 Americans with another 4 million who are eligible to participate.

Republicans’ work has not stopped there, though. In fact, every current Republican health care proposal addresses the issue. Shadegg’s bill, the Improving Health Care for All Americans Act, H.R. 3218, would expand state high-risk pools so that all 50 states can offer choices for affordable health insurance coverage to those who need it most.

6. Insurance companies can compete with the government. Not bloody likely mate. With the most profitable of the gargantuan, Satin loving insurance companies posting profits of between 2% and 4% percent, “compared to the standard return on investment of the S&P 500 at 11%” consider if you will them having to compete with an entity that need not show a profit, has the ability to print monies and can apply regulations to the insurance companies that their federal competitors need not abide with.

There are inequities in healthcare capitalism; mainly because, in that arena, capitalism has been adulterated. Government is already responsible for 47% of health insurance and it is their heavy handedness most culpable for the rising costs. In Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements providers are normally paid pennies on the dollar. In many cases this accounts for a net loss to the provider necessitating increased charges to those patients not enjoying Uncle Sams’ largess.

Estimates from, “the Council for Healthcare reform” estimates that the cost of government compliance represents 25% of the providers’ costs. The same watchdog group posits that defensive medicine accounts for as much as 35% of the physicians cost. These are widely viewed as unnecessary tests to protect the doctor from legal action. In this vein imagine the financial results of tort reform capping malpractice judgments to compensatory damages only. An honest medical mistake should not be a winning lottery ticket. For those gross instances of a drunk or drugged up surgeon and similar cases, patients should be compensated for their loss and doctors would be accountable under the rules of medical standards and practices as well as criminal laws of negligent conduct and reckless disregard.

Though, constitutionally congress does have a role to play. The failure of states to allow insurance companies to operate across state lines is the quintessential role of the federal government to exercise its constitutional authority without overstepping its role. The Commerce Clause is an enumerated power listed in the United States Constitution (Article 1, Section 8, and Clause 3). The clause states that the United States Congress has the power to regulate commerce with foreign nations, among the states, and with the Native American tribes. Courts and commentators have tended to discuss each of these three areas of commerce as a separate power granted to the Congress of the United States. It is common to see the Commerce Clause referred to as "the Foreign Commerce Clause," "the Interstate Commerce Clause," and "the Indian Commerce Clause," each of which refers to a different application of the same single sentence in the Constitution.

It might sound convoluted and complicated but simply stated it is this. The federal government has only the enumerated authority to allow insurance providers to sell their wares across state lines and no other federal authority exists. The, “fixes” to soaring healthcare cots are as simple as they are stark. Less is more; the solutions involve the free market, capitalism and limited government. Government needs to simply get the hell out of the way and let America work; after all, it always has.

Conservative Women Man-UP

Sadly, “for most republicans”, it took two conservative women to kick democrats in the groin while kicking sand in the face of establishment Republican soothsayers.
Sara Palin was first on the scene in the New York 23rd Congressional race, long before the Limbaugh’s and Hannity’s; and …. It’s Michelle Bachmann taking the fight against socialized healthcare to Nancy Pelosi’s front door this Thursday.
Granted, congressional candidate Doug Hoffman failed in his congressional bid, though…in large part because of the, “overly plump” and “overly liberal” Dierdre Scozzafava who, after dropping out of the race endorsed the democrat and whose name appeared on the ballot, “TWICE” garnering five percent of the vote. By sheer happenstance five percent would have secured the win for Hoffman.
While these feisty femme fatale fearlessly fight for the constitution and conservatism in general, they also offer an object lesson to the Gingrichs’ and Steeles’ of the party.

Conservatives are tired of being treated like a baby treats a diaper by the Republican Party. We intend to rebuild the Republican Party; brick by brick if necessary and bring it back to Reagan Conservatism. You tea sipping, limp wristed, big tent moderates, stand in our way at your political peril.
No longer may you count on our support for the sake of party affiliation. After all; conservatives now have real men to get behind… and they are women.
Now…if you have paid even scant attention to the Bamster’s media, “and taken them seriously” you’d have thought that Kenyan born Barack Yo’ Mama actually campaigned against the two Democrat contenders in New Jersey and Virginia. Don’t ya know; that two democrats getting their asses handed to them after Kim Jong Barry whisked into their states and ponied up his star power couldn’t be, “in no way” a reflection of dissatisfaction for the messiah or his agenda. Of course, the state controlled media is playing along.
Yet…much different was the portrayal of the Bush administration in 2001 when Jon Corzine won the governorship of the Soprano state and Virginia went from red to Bolshevik pink . Following is a few select quotes from CNN, MSNBC, Associated Press and the “over the air” media.
1. WASHINGTON - Iraq, Katrina, CIA leak, Harriet Miers. Things couldn’t possibly get any worse for President Bush.
Wait, they just did.
Bush put his wispy political prestige on the line in the Virginia governor’s race and lost Tuesday when the candidate he embraced in a last-minute campaign stop was soundly defeated. While there are many reasons for Jerry Kilgore’s defeat, chief among them his poor campaign, giddy Democrats said the Virginia race as well as a Democratic victory in New Jersey prove that Bush is a political toxin for Republicans.
2. “The arrogance of saying, ‘I’m the Great George Bush. I’m coming to Virginia in the 12th hour and pulling Kilgore’s bacon out of the fire.’ I think he rallied Democrats with that move,” said Steve Jarding, a Democratic political consultant who helped elect Virginia’s current governor, Mark Warner.

3. At least Virginia is a Republican state that Bush won by 9 percentage points a year ago, making it fair barometer of the president’s political decline. New Jersey is solidly Democrat, won by Bush rival John Kerry.
4. Polls had Kilgore tied with Kaine headed into the final day when Bush flew from Panama to Virginia and laid his bets. It was a risky decision, ensuring that the president would be blamed for a Kilgore defeat. White House officials said Bush might as well go because in the current environment he would be blamed anyhow.
They were right.
In closing; we need to look at whom, “on our side” is applying the testicular fortitude to go to war with these socialist slugs and the media they stand behind. Thankfully…hell hath no fury like a conservative woman. I’m just saying…

Monica and Healthcare

Monica and Healthcare

Does anyone really think that Barack, “the Magic negro” gives one whit about their healthcare…really? This, from the ungrateful wretch that questioned his grandmother’s hip replacement surgery at an advanced age; that to this day allows his half brother to live in an 8 by 10 thatched roof, mud hut. Yet, this is the man held up by the left as the paragon of compassion.
I’m not renting it much less buying. So…why is the Bamster willing to sacrifice the Democrat party and give America healthcare that it doesn’t want? Hmmm…? It’s actually not that hard to figure out. All you have to do is think like a socialist weasel.

With government run healthcare Obama gets it all. This is the Democrat wet dream. Yet; when one dares to criticize the Bamster’s healthcare circle jerk he and his staff act like the indignant girl that got felt-up at the prom.

Has anyone ever heard of the United States Supreme Court decision in Oklahoma v. Civil Service Commission?
Synoptically, for brevity, the court found that in all endeavors…involving federal funds, with that comes an inalienable iron grip of the federal bureaucracy in all matters wherein the feds; “in Tony Soprano like fashion”, extort monies from the electorate and distribute it. Those receiving such federal funds are beholden to the strings Washington might apply.
Now comes government-run “and endowed” healthcare.
Since the courts have already allowed that with government largess comes government strings imagine this. Guns are a healthcare danger, “as recently quoted by an Obama Czar” so…the government won’t take your gun; oh no…but…because it is a health danger, and…government funds are involved in your healthcare they can require you to buy insurance for your weapon. Just in case it goes on a killing spree and endangers health. You fatty’s out there, “and you know who you are” suddenly your debit card doesn’t work at McDonalds. And…how about us smokers of fine tobacco? Well boys and girls, friends and neighbors, the addiction we have succumbed to we share with Washington. They are addicted to our cigarette taxes. So, we’ll only have to pay twice as much for half the healthcare as the rest of you.

Government run healthcare gets the governments finger in every pie. Why do you think it was the first thing Billy Bob Huckster Clinton tried? The only difference between then and now is Monica Lewinski.

It’s official; Osama Obama is the Manchurian President

The Bamster’s approach to governance only sanctions supports and corroborates a supposition that we conservatives have wildly held since Obama, “pimp strolled” into the United States Senate and uttered the phrase, “Where’s all the white women?

In addition to B. Hussein’s demonstrable, elitist ego, audacity, bluster, braggadocios and his rambling speeches focusing on I, I, I, Me, Me, Me… “A psychological foible”; He also suffers from a mental defect in that he has grand illusions of himself as the emperor of the world and Mullah to the multitudes.

Obama once told Nevada Senator and “straight jacket eligible” Harry, “the wimp” Reid that he has a gift for great oratory. This from the man that uses a teleprompter when ordering a happy meal and by most accounts in the Presidential bedroom, when engaging in a romantic interlude with his American hating spouse. Its little wonder Michelle Obama seems to always appear unsatisfied…and mad. After all; Obama’s teleprompter has an almost defiant propensity for malfunctioning.

In short work Obamalama-ding-dong has not only insulted one of our staunchest allies, “and the only true Democracy in the Middle-East…Israel; He has sided with the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. The President a, “suspected Muslim” railed against new Israeli construction in the West Bank with either a complete ignorance of the geographic, historical relevance of the disputed territories or, “and more than likely” he has chosen to side with those of his own faith.

History 101; Pencils down…eyes forward. The West Bank before the Arab invasion and the six day war of 1967 belonged to Jordan; never to the Palestinians…NEVER! As a matter of fact the Jordanians hated the Palestinians. Israel captured said land in a defensive war and held it as a spoil of war…a memento if you will. It was then that Jordan expelled all Palestinians as thugs, rabble rousers and turban wearing troglodytes. The Jordanians expelled these terrorists to Israel and Libya. One might observe that before the influx of Palestinians into the country of Libya most international travelers cited Libya as the Monte Carlo of the Middle East. Today it is most aptly described as the butt-plug of the Middle East. Obama’s kindred Palestinians are no better than cockroaches…yet the Bamster puts on Sinatra, chills champagne and bends over for these animals.
One might ask…Why, oh why won’t any Arab or Persian country come to the rescue of these deranged damsels in Burkhas and give them sanctuary or at least a flop at Hijab motel eight. Short answer…They realize them to be fanatical Muslims that often go BOOM!
Yet; B.H.O. has insisted that the west bank be returned to these Palestinians thus giving them the high ground, overlooking Israel. Incidentally the west bank is the Nirvana for a geographic and strategic attack on Israel with the Palestinian Kassam rockets. The azimuth sighting and the geographic range from the West bank would allow these thug animals to be much more accurate in their sighting and target acquisitions thus ensuring Israeli School children be murdered by the bushel. After all, there’s nothing more threatening to the Palestinians than little Debbie with her Benjamin Netanyahu lunch box. Of course, we might overlook their mission statement to kill as many innocent Israelis as possible…gleefully and without remorse.

Then, an “intellectual” need only contemplate “Dumbo ears”, hen pecked executive order to completely abandon Americas long held promise to place defensive missiles in Poland and the Czech Republic to protect Eastern Europe from medium and long range missiles…by the way; it would also give America a practice shot at any ICBM headed for Newark.
The White House spin from useful idiot, “mostly incoherent” Robert, “I like to lie” Gibbs postulates that the Iranian missile program would not have the ability to fire an ICBM with the capacity of reaching the contiguous United States. After all; the arrogant press secretary uttered one of the most ill informed and deception posits ever to come out of the White House since Bubba Clinton got a Lewinski in the oval office and then parsed the word, “that depends what the meaning of is, is.

The fly in this ointment; the monkey in the wrench is as simple as the nose on your face…or the ears on Dumbo, “big ears “the Bamster!
Apparently Bamster INC. has concluded that intercontinental nuclear transport is too complicated for the Persians and we are as safe as a virgin girl surrounded by Catholic priests.

Of course this dynamic, treacherous tangent ignores Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hitting the glowing red button, firing off a two stage solid fuel rocket and deploying their hunk-a-junk space satellite. The Iranian Republic Guard recently fired off a low orbit satellite, technology employed in the pursuit of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. OOPS!

Still; Obama keeps touting his chit-chat with Arab and Persian animals that have sworn an oath to destroy Israel and then America.
And… the Islamic cherry on top of this Sunni-Shia Sundae is POTUS pissant Bam-Bam telling the General that he, “personally picked” to sacrifice American soldiers in Afghanistan and make due with forty thousand too few troops.

Just yesterday eight of those troops gave the last full measure of their devotion to this great country. Meanwhile…Obama gave another speech.

Like Father, Like Son?

Like Father, Like Son?

You know; I like to think my ole man is a pretty smart feller. After all; he did contribute to the DNA that I possess. Though…I have refined and improved on his genetic composition. Think of it this way, Einstein’s pop could barely tie his own shoes and spent his golden years yelling at cats.

My dad chooses to spend his golden years hustling the nursing homes for elderly damsels and “in a Cinderella like analogy” continues to search for that blue-haired babe that left her dentures in the back seat of his Dodge. I’m just saying.

Another thing dad has a propensity to do is to postulate absurd arguments and then search for coherent constructs by which to support nonsense.

To wit; pap recently revered the dialogical discourse deriding the second amendment as most of the American demographic is too dumb to safely caretaker a firearm and propped up this straw-dog by enunciating that oft eluded to Democrat vernacular-ease by way of, “think of the children”…don’t ya know. These are the times when I suspect I was adopted.
Still…I try to remain positive and look upon this beguiling blather as a fast ball across the plate. And; as such view this as an opportunity to hit it out of the park…batter up!

Dad’s argument that guns in the home are unsafe because, “don’t ya know” little Ricky is going to get his hands on it, sooner or later. Well spank my ass and call me Judy.
This half-assed, half-baked, short-bus condescension sends me from zero to pissed off in a nano-second. After all; it’s the same ole tired template. We have to give boys condoms, because…hey, they’re going to have sex anyway…we have to give eleven year old girls birth control pills…because they’re going to have sex anyway. We have to provide on-demand abortion because they’ll have abortions anyway. We might as well legalize illicit drugs and prostitution, because…it’s going to happen anyway.

Well boys and girls, friends and neighbors, murders, rape and anarchy poises an attack on the moral fabric that is this country every damn day. And…since we, “KNOW” it’s going to happen; why not legalize it?

Even overlooking that pesky second amendment those who wring their hands over personal gun possession are out to save a world that doesn’t need saving. Sure; some rubes will inadvertently leave their .44 magnum, loaded and in little Timmy’s crib. And of course…it only stands to reason that Timmy will take out his sister and parents before suckling the barrel himself. Yet; I would postulate my friends that this is exactly how we become a more intelligent people. Dumb people of all ages need be shot in the head. After all; one less idiot is one less welfare hog on the teat of America….Nuff Said!

Turn Out the Lights; the Parties Over!

For an economics wonk, “such as I” observing the market guys, the economy guys and the political spinsters contort the economic health of America into a daily sound bite is like explaining Einstein’s theory of space and time by saying, “fast is slow”.

Practically absent in the economic debate is our blossoming debt and the dire consequences we face as it explodes under the Bamster. Don’t get me wrong; I bitched, moaned and opined when the Bushwhacker upped the federal ante. But, Obama has taken America’s credit card and not left the White House without it.

We have in the best of times, a $14 trillion dollar economy. We have $12 trillion dollars in debt, “mostly to China” and a Federal budget approaching $4 trillion dollars. Each year since 1969, Congress has spent more money than its income. The Treasury Department has to borrow money to meet Congress's appropriations.

We pay interest on that huge debt. And now the Treasury is having trouble finding lenders! Every week at the C.M.E., “Chicago Mercantile Exchange” we have bond auctions. Basically, this is the treasury selling our debt to finance our government largess. Up until a year ago, foreign investors, “China” hedge funds, and bond traders would purchase this debt in the form of long and short term treasury bonds…think I.O.U’s. Yet; those heady days are gone my friends. The world now treats the dollar much as a baby treats a diaper. So…enter the Federal Reserve, also known as Goldman Sachs. By the way; in a completely unrelated story…Lehman Brothers, “now defunct” was the only super bank allowed to fail and, “I’m just saying” just happened to be the only competition for Goldman Sachs, “AKA, the Federal Reserve”. Nothing to see here, keep moving. Where was I?

Oh Yeah, the monetization of our debt. Since the rest of the world is living in economic sanity our Federal Reserve is not only printing our currency, they are also using it to purchase our debt from their evil twin, the Treasury. Think of it this way; you use your credit card to buy that big screen television that you’ve been pining for. Then…you write a bad check to pay your credit card bill.

So…how is the Federal Reserve paying for our debt? Simple, they are printing dollars on every damn thing they can fit into their printing presses. The ensuing inflation that will result from this fiduciary folly will make Germanys Weimar Republic look like Mayberry’s lady druggist raising Aunt Bea’s miracle cure by a dime. Think of it this way; imagine moo juice at $100.00 a gallon and my favorite bourbon costing a Porsche.

Yet; sadly, that isn’t the worst or the signature of this ingenious postulation. Add to our increasing debt of $12 trillion dollars another $65 trillion in unfunded federal liabilities, currently on the books. As even the Bamster himself has said, “this is unsustainable”. Yet he and the Democrat congress keep spending.

Frankly; it is probably too late. Countries traditionally expire large debt with production. Think of the 110% debt to GDP ratio America incurred during WW2. Though; we held the anvil of production. We made things. Today a full 70% of our economy is service oriented. What are we going to do? Loan our shyster trial lawyers to China so that they can sue the hell out of each other? Not bloody likely governor.

Obama had a small window early in his Presidency to signal fiscal fidelity to a world awash in dollars. And…as the Federal Reserve halts Treasury purchases at years end, “as they have promised to do”. We will see the beginning of the end. By the way America; last man standing should turn out the lights…the parties over.

Conservatism

An admonition for those persons or person intent upon reading the ideas and tenets of conservatism I am about to proffer in this soon to be award winning literary composition. I offer a warning in the interest of mental and physical health. Liberals when confronted with the philosophy of conservatism have been known to suffer anxiety, mental confusion, hives, and irritable bowel syndrome and on rare occasions revert to a fetal position, sobbing hysterically while sucking their thumb. Having been forewarned let’s get this party started. Please hang on tight.
A common misconception when labeling conservatives is that we are all racists, sexists, bigoted homophobes. In short we are bible thumping rubes driving pickup trucks with a shotgun rack in the window, along with a rebel flag sitting next to our fourteen year old spouse who also happens to be our cousin. We are illiterate tobacco chewing, Hee Haw watching, toothless, poor white trash. These are but a few of the insulting stereotypes in the vast array of adjectives, used to discredit conservatives. Most are untrue. Well, some are untrue. These assertions are put forth by the left in order to marginalize us as extreme right wing kooks who should not have a forum. The liberal left in this country can ill afford a debate in the arena of ideas with true conservatives. Instead we are labeled as the right wing fringe and until recently have not been seriously included in the national debate. For decades in this country the conservative voice wasn’t just marginalized it was completely ignored. In 1985 that all changed when Rush Limbaugh got hold of a microphone and the national monologue became a dialogue.

Though Limbaugh’s audience share in the beginning was sparse he has turned his, EIB network comprised only of The Rush Limbaugh show into the Top radio show in the country with a dedicated weekly audience of 13.5 million regular listeners and up to 22 million part time listeners. Limbaugh is widely credited with saving talk radio when many experts believed it to be a fading medium. He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2002, industry publication Talkers Magazine ranked him as the greatest radio talk show host of all time. Liberals have put forth the argument that the vast audiences of The Rush Limbaugh show are mind numbed robots who haven’t the necessary capabilities to analyze current political events or the intellect to think for themselves. This is complete sophistry.

As evidence I provide the following reasonable conclusion based on a Pew Poll recently released. Judged by the respondent answers to three knowledge questions, the most informed audiences belong to the political magazines, Rush Limbaugh's radio show, The O'Reilly Factor, news magazines, and online news sources. Rush Limbaugh isn’t the only star in vast cavalcade of conservatism. One of our best known, most respected in conservative circles and most controversial keeper of the torch, is the brilliant, witty and extremely direct in her prose, Ann Coulter, celebrated author and speaker.

I offer this back round knowledge of our two most prominent conservatives only to present this insight, bonafides, as a walking, talking, gun toting conservative in good standing, able to enunciate a true conservative point of view.
Probably the most recognizable descriptor attached to conservative thought would be anti- abortion. Though apt, it is often misunderstood by those unfortunate souls who happen to be liberal. Conservatives do oppose abortion on moral grounds but we are equally offended by the adulteration of our constitution. To conservatives, the constitution of the United States is sacrosanct. In the case of Roe V. Wade, the United States Supreme court found a general right to privacy in the constitution where one did not exist. The constitution does not explicitly mention any right of privacy. Simplistically the United States Supreme Court did not interpret law but made new law. The making of new law is the explicit domain of an elected congress. Abortion is a social issue and not a legal conundrum. As such it should be the decision of the people through their elected representatives.
What is so frustrating to conservatives is the hijacking of our constitution by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court consists of nine lawyers with all of the foibles and flaws shared as mere humans. They do not reside on Mount Olympus nor do they walk on water, contrary to their personal beliefs, though distasteful to conservatives, legal constitutional abortions could be performed in this country without subjugating the constitution to the Supreme Court. Before the Roe case, abortion was legal in some states and illegal in others. The populace of the state through their representation decided that question after a public debate. Effectively what the Supreme Court did was to end the debate about abortion, or so they thought.
A stark contrast between conservative and liberal thought, can also be found in the arena of just what is the government’s responsibility to its citizenry. Liberals proudly articulate the vast numbers of Americans, “legal and illegal” that their sponsored programs have helped. Conservatives on the other hand measure successful governance by the number of people who no longer need help. Contrary to popular opinion, cold hearted, evil conservatives do believe there is a place for government in helping its electorate yet that help should have defined and measurable goals with the ultimate goal of self sufficiency. Conservatives believe strongly in the traits that make us distinctly American, self reliance and personal responsibility.
As an example of good conservative governance, I cite Bill Clinton’s Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. Since 1996 welfare rolls have been cut by almost 60%, 1.6 million fewer children live in poverty, and more single mothers are employed than ever. While republicans and conservatives, “not always equivalent” were torturing puppies and robbing from the poor to further endow the rich, Bill Clinton was saving the world and reforming welfare. On the tenth anniversary of the welfare reform act Bill Clinton wrote in the New York Times, “TEN years ago today I signed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act. By then I had long been committed to welfare reform. As a governor, I oversaw a workfare experiment in Arkansas in 1980 and represented the National Governors Association in working with Congress and the Reagan administration to draft the welfare reform bill enacted in 1988.Yet when I ran for president in 1992, our system still was not working for the taxpayers or for those it was intended to help. In my first State of the Union address, I promised to “end welfare as we know it,” to make welfare a second chance, not a way of life, exactly the change most welfare recipients wanted it to be.” Pause for laughter. “Author inserted”
Welfare reform did work and was applauded by conservatives, after all it was the republican congress that sponsored and passed this bill, three times. President Clinton vetoed the bill twice and only acquiesced as he faced an upcoming election. As reported in Investors Business Daily on 8/23/06. It was a Republican bill passed by a Republican Congress, signed after 30 Republican governors sent Clinton a letter urging him to sign it, saying: "You have consistently said that we must 'end welfare as we know it.' The time is now. This is the bill. The rest is up to you." The welfare reform act is a good example of conservative legislation.

Public education is one of the most argued and divisive subjects on our collective social radar. The debate on this subject always becomes more heated during an election year due to the diverse opinions on both sides of the spectrum. Common ground in theory if not action is that we must have more funding for public education and our public school teachers are pitifully underpaid. Both Republicans and Democrats will recite this mantra on cue as this is what the public has been brainwashed to believe. Conservatives need not engage in this debate because the debate is over. What debate I rhetorically ask. The trifecta is to add class size to the non-debate and look sad.

We constantly hear that in some schools class sizes are as much as twenty five or more students per one teacher, a ratio that critics claim, “liberals or pseudo liberals” causes little Timmy not to read. Japan, Korea and Brazil have average class sizes of fifty students or more and yet these three countries continually mop the floor with us in international scholastics competition.

We are also forced to listen to the constant harping of the underpaid public school teacher. My first question is this, if we paid teachers more would our children graduate school better educated? The national average salary for a public school teacher is $45, 930. (5) When you consider public school teachers get summers off and go home at 3:00 everyday perhaps we should all get a teaching certificate. Before I forget, my Robert Morris College instructors are woefully underpaid and I will testify to that. Surprisingly recent numbers haven’t been released but as of 2003 as a nation we spent an average of $7500 per student enrolled in our public schools. (6) In New York they spend $11,474 per student only to be eclipsed by Washington D. C. (7) I would point out that what our public school system lacks is not funding, but competition. Student test scores and graduation rates have never been correlated to an increase in funding. Most American workers are compensated based on factors such as production, ambition, attitude, performance and results. If we introduce competition into our public schools and our public school teachers, the benefits will be reaped by our children. After all, it is our tax dollars that support theses scholastic endeavors. The governmental bureaucracy attacks the problem of public education with its usual aplomb. Raise taxes and spend more. As conservatives we believe we are overtaxed and under served. Taxes are the lifeblood of government, the crack cocaine to the politico and many of us right wing rubes think it’s time to twelve step our addicted electors.

One of the biggest frauds perpetrated on the public is that the rich don’t pay taxes and the poor get hosed. To the contrary, the poor of this country do not pay taxes and it is the rich taking the hosing. I say this as one of the poor, irony inserted. For one side of the political spectrum to carp about tax cuts for the rich at the expense of the poor is not only sophistry but fraudulent. The latest data from the internal revenue service indicates the top 50% of wage earners pay 96.54% of all federal taxes and unbelievably the top 1% of wage earners pay 34.27% of all federal taxes. (8) For those who matriculated through the public school system these percentages might seem inconsequential, yet when combined with the class warfare arguments promulgated from the left, one can only conclude an attempt at public deception. Liberals argue against tax cuts for the rich and in the same breath whine about job creation. Has anyone ever gotten a job from a poor person? Good government should create an environment that is conducive to business and get out of the way. The extolled myth that the wealthy do not pay taxes needs to finally be scrapped, along with others urban legends, “manmade global warming, evolution, a general right to privacy, dangerous second hand smoke and the innocence of O. J. to name a few.”

Simply put, conservatives believe in lower taxes, smaller government and personal freedoms. With personal freedoms we also expect personal responsibility. We know that our constitution does not have any language that separates church and state. We believe as Ronald Reagan did that government is not the solution to our problems but that big government is the problem. We believe in American exceptionalism and manifest destiny. We hail Ronald Reagan as one of our greatest presidents and ask ourselves what we can do for our country. We believe in God. We believe there is no moral relativism between us and terrorist. We believe that capitalism is simply freedom to engage in commerce. We believe the United States Constitution to be the greatest document ever conceived and consider it sacrosanct. We believe that this country offers more possibilities to it’s citizenry than any other country in the history of time. We believe that any citizen can go as far in this country as their aptitude, ambition and energy will take them. We believe that all men and women are created equal, but not the same. We believe the people should decide issues of social policy and not a judge or judges. We believe in personal property rights. We believe in law and order and demand that those who break our laws pay full price. We believe we have dominion over the earth and a responsibility to it. Conservatives are eternal optimist, because we believe.
